Large Document signed giving Power of Attorney to their fellow executors in England Robert Martinson, of Laverick Hall, Co. Durham, and Thomas Watson, of Hawksdale, Cumberland, to act over further sales of property in the will (1822) of John Armstrong, of Dalston, Cumberland, "late of this Island", Martinson and Watson obtained probate at Carlisle and began the disposal, but difficulties have arisen over assurances to purchasers, especially since Watson died (the deed is partly amended to reflect this), unless Smith and Knubley are to be joined in the conveyances, they are willing to give the power but only for completing such sales, and provided their names are to be used "solely ... for the sake of Conformity and not by way of ... warranty ... or acknowledgment of receipt of ... Money", they are not to be liable for the application of the money to the relatives, endorsed with signed statements that the witnesses have verified the signatures on oath, attached at the side by ribbon and the "Broad Seal of this Island" are further verifications, 1 side 21" x 30" endorsed, and 2 sides folio, no place. and St Jago de la Vega (Spanish Town), Jamaica, 17th May - 13th October

Stamped for revenue with the arms of Jamaica and interesting for the veritable hierarchy of signatures. The deed poll is witnessed by William Augustus Dickson and Samuel Barrett Hylton. Their witnessing is confirmed by Robert Oliver Vassall, Custos Rotulorum for Hanover Parish, and William Hewitt. Vassall's and Hewitt's status (as Assistant Judges) is attested by William Bullock, Secretary of the Island, and Bullock's (in a part-printed form), by the Governor himself, William, 5th Duke of Manchester, governor 1814-1827.
