THE WEDDING OF THE DUKE OF CONNAUGHT [ARTHUR (Duke of Connaught, 1850-1942, Son of Queen Victoria, Governor General of Canada)]

'The Form of Solemnisation of Matrimony' 12 pages printed in red and black, together with the programme of the music, tipped in, sm. folio, bound in moiréed white cloth with gilt crown & monogram, all edges gilt, St George's Chapel, Windsor, 13th March soiled, spine slightly frayed

After the heavy blow to Queen Victoria of the loss of her second daughter, Princess Alice, who had died of diphtheria at Darmstadt on 14th December 1878, the seventeenth anniversary of the prince consort's death, the wedding of Prince Arthur was a welcome relief.
Amid greater pomp than had characterised royal weddings since that of the princess royal, the queen attended on 13th March the marriage at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, of her third son, the Duke of Connaught. The bride was daughter of Prince Frederick Charles of Prussia (the red prince), a nephew of the German emperor, and the new connection with the Prussian house was thoroughly congenial to the queen.
