[FRIEDRICH III (Wilhelm Nikolaus, 1831-1888, son-in-law of Queen Victoria, Emperor of Germany for 99 days)]

Fine unsigned cabinet photo of a portrait in colour showing the King as Prince, half length, in military uniform with an elaborate breast plate, 6½" x 4¼", n.p,

Pictures of Friedrich III are uncommon due to his early death from throat cancer. He only survived his father Wilhelm I by three months. As Crown Prince his position was made very difficult by his opposition to Bismarck and also as his wife Victoria, Empress Frederick antagonised the Prussian people with her aggressive & tactless Englishness.
