The Duke became Governor of the Bahamas in 1940. In November 1941 the Duchess needed dental treatment and was advised to go to Miami. To the Duke's surprise they were given permission to go there for five days in mid-December. In fact President Roosevelt was due to visit the Bahamas to inspect a proposed American site at that time and the British Government did not want them to meet. However, the President sent his plane to Miami to fly the Duke to his ship. See Michael Bloch, The Duchess of Windsor, p. 162
The album was compiled by a dentist in the RAF Medical Corps who met the Duchess when she visited him for extractions. He asked for her autograph and was given it in exchange for a donation to charity.
