Fine long Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs. Emerson. saying that she had "an idea of sending you this note by Mai, but I have just heard that it is against regulations" so explaining the delay in thanking her for "the divine and useful cigarette boxes which add so considerably to the décor of this ugly house ...", she says that she "loved having Mai here, a breath from the world of human beings, she ... has had a sad time ... there are so few people here and really nothing to do with the hotels closed ... War has at last come to the Bahamas which makes this job slightly more interesting as we now have the unemployment problem and many others … we are lashed to the mast'…" hoping she will have a "slight respite from the heat ... if so our paths might cross - I still long to see your camp - Mai has told me what a perfect place it is and the wonderful bracing air, the very opposite from here ...", 5 sides 8vo., Government House, Bahamas, together with an unsigned photo annotated on the verso as showing the Duke seated next to Mrs Emerson, with the Duchess at the head of the table with her back to the camera, 7" x 7" no place, Nassau, the letter dated Wednesday, 4th March, no date, circa ink slightly faded
