Exceptional unsigned Imperial Cabinet photo by Hansen,
showing the King and Queen with the annual summer gathering of their royal relations, 25 in all, including Crown Prince Frederik (VIII), with Crown Princess Louise and their daughters Princesses Louise, Thyra and Ingeborg; the king's sons King George I of Greece with King George's son Prince George, and Prince Valdemar, with his future wife Princess Marie of Orléans, her parents Robert Duke of Chartres and Duchess Françoise, and her younger brother Prince Henri; the king's daughters Princess Alexandra of Wales, with the Prince of Wales (Edward VII), with their three daughters, Princesses Louise, Victoria and Maud, and Empress Maria Feodorovna, with Alexander III and their children Grand Dukes Nicholas (II), Georgi, Mikhail, and Grand Duchess Xenia, the two elder boys in sailors' caps lettered in Russian 'Tsarevna' (the Imperial Yacht used on this visit), all full length and full or nearly full face, standing or seated on the steps of the west front of Frederiksborg Palace giving onto the private Marble Garden, 7½" x 9½" on large 'cabinet' mount 8½" x 10", [Frederiksborg], no date but 14th - 22nd September

During this holiday, on 14th September,
Princess Marie and Prince Valdemar
became engaged. They were married in France on 20th and 22nd October. Princess Marie embraced Prince Valdemar's life in the Navy, and had an anchor tattooed on her arm. Her brother
Prince Henri
became a well known explorer, discovering the source of the Irrawaddy. At this time
Prince George of Greece,
seen here in uniform, was living under the care of his uncle Prince Valdemar while in the Danish Navy.
