ELIZABETH (The Queen Mother, 1900-2002, Queen of George VI)

Fine photo by Cecil Beaton, signed and dated on the mount, showing her full length, wearing a beautiful be-jewelled crinoline and a tiara, holding her gloves in front of her, standing next to a large jardiniere full of hydrangas, 10" x 8", Buckingham Palace, slightly stained by former sellotape marking, annotated on the verso

Beaton's famous photographs of Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in 1939 established a new romantic image for the monarchy. He subsequently photographed her five times between 1947 and 1957 and deliberately tried to re-create the spirit of the 1939 image - the be-spangled crinoline dress with lots of diamond jewellery.
Presented to Fred Campbell, transport Officer for A.C.T. in charge of Her Majesty's Transport by Her Majesty the Queen Mother at Canberra on the occasion of the Royal Tour, February 1958.
