QUEEN MARY'S NEEDLEWORK GUILD [MARY (of Teck, 1867-1953, Queen of George V)]

Charming badge for the Guild enamelled in red, white and gold, with a rose surmounted by the initials 'M.R' and a crown, under the initials 'Q.M.N.G.', just under 2" x 1", no date, c.

During the First World War Queen Mary's Needlework Guild was established, with branches in many parts of the world, to make and distribute clothes and other items to Servicemen. At the conclusion of the War a considerable sum of money collected by the Guild was left unspent and Queen Mary decided to use these funds to endow a Maternity Home, for the benefit of wives and children of Servicemen which was opened in October 1919.
