[LEOPOLD (Prince, of Belgium, 1859-1869, Duke of Brabant]

Very rare unsigned carte-de-visite by Ghémar Frères of Brussels showing the short-lived son of Leopold II, King of the Belgians, showing him full length, standing next to a chair on which his small dog (probably a Yorkshire Terrier) is sitting, identified on the verso in German, 3½" x 2½", no place, no date, c.

At the time of young Leopold's birth in 1859, his father was heir to the throne. When his grandfather, King Leopold I, died in 1865, his father became king and young Prince Leopold became heir to the throne, but he died of pneumonia in 1869 after falling into a pond.
