[FRIEDRICH III (Wilhelm Nikolaus, 1831-1888, son-in-law of Queen Victoria, Emperor of Germany for 99 days) & his wife VICTORIA (1840-1901, Empress Frederick of Germany, eldest child of Queen Victoria & mother of Kaiser Wilhelm II) & their children WILHELM II (1859-1941, Kaiser after his father), CHARLOTTE (1860-1919), HEINRICH (1862-1929, Grand Admiral), SIGISMUND (1864-1866)

Fine unsigned carte de visite photo by Hills and Saunders, showing the Emperor standing holding his youngest son, with his wife seated in front of him surrounded by the other children, 4" x 2½", no place, no date, c.

Pictures of Friedrich III are uncommon due to his early death from throat cancer. He only survived his father Wilhelm I by three months. As Crown Prince his position was made very difficult by his opposition to Bismarck and also as his wife Victoria, Empress Frederick antagonised the Prussian people with her aggressive & tactless Englishness.
