[LEOPOLD (George Albert, 1853-1884, 4th Son of Queen Victoria, Duke of Albany, a haemophiliac, died after an accident on 28th March in Cannes)]

Unsigned carte de visite photo by Bingham of Paris, showing him as a young boy, full length with his knee slightly bent because he is recovering from a very nasty haemophiliac attack which caused him to limp for nearly a year, 4¼" x 2½", no place, (Cannes), no date, circa very slightly faded

At this time Queen Victoria that no public images of her son should be taken. This particular photo, which comes from the collection of Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse, is unusual as it is from that period. Alice and Leopold had an extraordinarily close relationship, as she did with Bertie, and she was to him almost a surrogate mother.
