ERNST AUGUST (1887-1953, Duke of Brunswick, grandson of George V, last reigning monarch of the House of Hanover and his wife VIKTORIA LUISE (1892-1980, only daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II, Duchess of Brunswick)

In 1913 the couple had got engaged and married. The Kaiser reinstated Ernst August as Duke of Brunswick. The wedding was the last great gathering of European royalty before WWI. In WWII the Duke and Duchess were indefatigable in hospital work.
Many of the soldiers are holding bunches of flowers which apparently indicates that they are ready to return to the front.
