CORONATION COMMEMORATIVE PEWTER TANKER [ELIZABETH II (1926-2022, Longest Serving Monarch of Great Britain)]

Pint Pewter Tankard stamped with the crown and shaft hall mark of James Yates of Birmingham near the rim, with “PINT” and duty mark, and for the Coronation an engraved crown and “Elizabeth R 1953” on the rounded bowl and the owners initials “JJE” on the other side, 5 inches high, folded foot, ogee handle, stamped on the base Gaskell and Chambers Ltd. Birmingham,

James Yates Pewter started in Birmingham in 1860. James Yates died in 1881 and the firm was sold to Frederick and Herbert Greenaway. They they merged with Gaskell and Chambers in 1902, but continued to use the distinctive founders mark. This piece is clearly marked, and is made from one of the earlier designs. The business closed in 1983. The only other examples we have found of these Coronation Tankers have belonged to members of the services.
