I shall always think with gratitude of your kindness ...", 2 sides 8vo., with original autograph envelope, Berlin Schloss paper headed with a gilt crown, together with the cabinet photograph by Selle & Kuntze, Potsdam, that she refers to, showing her children, the Prince and Princess of SHS-Glücksburg, FRIEDRICH (1891-1965, from 1934 Duke) & ADELHEID(1885-1970, wife, 1905, of Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha), identified in their mother's hand, 6½" x 4¼", Potsdam, circa

Miss Howard was greatly loved by the Empress, her ladies and the boys, but despite her enjoyment of the work the constant strain of royal protocol, extra duty and no holidays took its toll and she left after two and a half years in their service. The Empress, her ladies and the boys kept in touch for several years. See Miss Howard's 'Potsdam Princes' (London and New York, 1916).
