FLIGHT UNDER TOWER BRIDGE IN 1912 McCLEAN (Sir Francis Kennedy 'Frank', 1876-1955, Lieutenant Colonel, Pioneer Aviator

Fine pair of photographs signed and inscribed the first showing him half length wearing a bowler hat and smoking a pipe, leaning on a wall, signed and dated, the other showing the actual flight under Tower bridge, inscribed "With best wishes for the coming year from F. K. McClean 1912", each 6" x 4" in mount 9" x 7"

Sir Francis was one of the founding members of the Royal Aero Club and one of the founders of naval aviation and amateur flying. His first flying experience was in 1907 in a balloon race in Berlin and in December 1908 he flew with Wilbur Wright at Le Mans. In August 1912 he flew a floatplane between the upper and lower parts of Tower Bridge and underneath London Bridge.
