MITFORD (Nancy, 1904-1973, Author)

Fine Long ALS ('Nancy Mitford') to Madame del Riego (Teresa Clotilde, 1876-1968, Violinist, Pianist, Singer and Composer of Spanish ancestry), thanking her for her letter "it was so kind of you to write exactly the sort of praise one loves to receive. Most people don't really read what one writes, only what they themselves imagine. Half the letters I got were to order me to book rooms at 'Ste Fay' - how much with full pension! ... So you do see that yours made a change! ...", 2 sides 8vo., Rue Monsieur VII, Suffron 7665, 12th August

After finishing her book 'Voltaire in Love' (published 1957), she returned to writing fiction, with 'Don't Tell Alfred', in which she revived Fanny Wincham, the narrator of 'The Pursuit of Love'and 'Love in a Cold Climate', and placed her in a Paris setting as wife of the British ambassador. Several characters familiar from the earlier novels appear in minor roles. The book, published in October 1960, was popular with the public, but received indifferent reviews. Some of Mitford's friends disliked it, and she decided she would write no more fiction.
