GEORGE VI (1895-1952, King of England) & ELIZABETH (The Queen Mother, b. 1900, his Queen)

Enormous pair of Raphael Tuck reproductions of fine photo signed and dated on the mount, the King by Hugh Cecil and the Queen by Cecil Beaton his shows him half length in profile wearing his naval uniform, and hers shows her half length seated in profile wearing a bejewelled dress, each 17½" x 14" on mount 28" x 20", no place,

Beaton's famous photographs of Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in 1939 established a new romantic image for the monarchy. He subsequently photographed her five times between 1947 and 1957 and deliberately tried to re-create the spirit of the 1939 image - the be-spangled crinoline dress with lots of diamond jewellery.
