SIGNED THE DAY THE RENOWN SAILED EDWARD VIII (1894-1972, King of Great Britain, Later the Duke of Windsor)

Fine early photo signed 'Edward P' and inscribed "H.M.S. 'Renown' 5 VIII 1919", showing the Royal Family standing on the deck of the Warship 'Renown', King GEORGE V is standing next to Queen MARY and the Prince stands next to his mother, his sister Mary (later Countess of Harewood) and Albert (later George VI) stand next to their brother, the group are surrounded by other naval officers and soldiers, 10" x 8", HMS Renown, 5th August

HMS Renown was the lead ship of her class of battlecruisers of the Royal Navy built during the First World War but did not see combat during the war. In June 1919 she was refitted in preparation for a tour by the Prince of Wales and this photo is signed on the day that the ship sailed for Canada. Their first stop was St John's Newfoundland.
