GATTY (Margaret, née Scott, Mrs. Alfred Gatty, 1809-1873, Children's Writer, from 1866 editor of 'Aunt Judy's Magazine')

Autograph Letter Signed to G. Carrington saying that she has "much pleasure in saying yes to the new paper. It is most graphic and breathes of truth. Does it not go on from the last where you were seeking employment? If so would you not allude to the fact? A paragraph would suffice. People must be interested in you and care to know how your adventures followed each other. Besides, I hope you will make a very pretty book of it all at least. I will try for an illustration. The pictures are very sad ... Do you still think of taking Holy Orders. The drudgery of boy teaching must be very irksome to you who can 'write books' as the pen people say ...", with a note in the recipient's hand at that point "not at all. I like the work here very much" signed with initials, with a postscript about the timing of the papers, 2 sides 8vo., Ecclesfield, 22nd March some damage to the conjugate blank not affecting the letter
