Fine Autograph Letter Signed to Dr ALLCHIN (William Henry, 1846–1912, Physician and lecturer on comparative anatomy, physiology, pathology and medicine at Westminster Hospital) telling him that the "Examination papers in Physiology will be ready on the 18 May ... We meet here on that day at five (5) pm ...", 1 side 8vo., Science and Art Department, South Kensington headed paper, 28th April slightly soiled, lacking a very small part of the top right hand corner

Between 1870 and 1885 Huxley went through a period of almost ceaseless activity. He was chosen as one of the secretaries of the Royal Society, published a variety of philosophical works, was a member of the London School board, and served on six royal commissions. This was in addition to his lecturing and his scientific publications. Huxley is known as "Darwin's Bulldog" for his advocacy of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.
