Pair of Autograph Letters Signed to Admiral Duckworth from the Admiralty saying that he has "laid before my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty your letter to me of the 19th October last requesting that an allowance may be made to you for the Expenses to which you were subjected by the accommodation of the Honble General Stuart and the other Officers therin mentioned on board the Leviathon in the Expedition against the Island of Minorca, I have their lordship's Commands to acquaint you that they have recommended to the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury that an allowance of two hundred Pounds may be made to you ...", the second says he has received his second letter on the subject of his reimbursement and their Lordships have referred him "to my letter of the 11th Instant on that subject ...". in total 3 sides folio, Admiralty, 11th and 19th September

Duckworth went to sea at 11 during the Seven Years' War and, though unemployed for several years, was still working at the Admiralty when he died. In February 1797 he was made Rear-Admiral in his own ship, a compliment to his bold and often successful service. In 1801 he was sent straight from the Mediterranean as Governor and C-in-C of the Leeward Islands.
In 1798 Duckworth led a small squadron of four vessels in the 74-gun HMS Leviathan. He sailed for Minorca on 19 October 1798, where he was a joint commander with Sir Charles Stuart, initially landing his 800 troops in the bay of Addaya, including frigates Cormorant and Aurora and later landing sailors and marines from his ships to augment the Army. He was promoted to Rear Admiral of the White Squadron on 14 February 1799 following the Capture of Minorca. In June his squadron of four ships captured Courageux.
Lieutenant-general Sir Charles Stuart, KB (1753-1801, Nobleman and Soldier). After the successful capture of the island he served as Governor until March 1799 when Admiral Nelson ordered him to bring the Regiments to Palermo.
