The recipient of the letter is Mary Leonora Woulfe, Lady Sheil. She was the author of Glimpses of Life and Manners in Persia, published 1856.
Franklin was married first to the poet Eleanor Anne Porden who died in 1825 after two years of marriage. He subsequently married Jane Griffin, a friend of his first wife and a seasoned traveller who proved indomitable in the course of their life together.
