I have now an idea that I can get a nomination for him in the Colonial Service. He took the Edinburgh & Glasgow qualifications in April ... he expressed a wish to go to the London Exam as well ... as it would probably help in the Colonial appt I have in mind ... In 1852-54 Richards served as second in command on Belcher's ship Assistancein the search for Sir John Franklin, whose Arctic expedition had been missing since 1845.
