GREGORY (William, 1803-1858, from 1844 Professor of Chemistry at Edinburgh University)

Gregory studied under and translated some of the works of Justus von Liebig, the German chemist. He also had interests in mesmerism and phrenology. In 1832 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and served as the Society's Secretary from 1844 to 1858.
