COQUELIN (Ernest Alexandre Honoré, 1848-1909, French Comedian, younger brother of the Comedian Constant)

Autograph Letter Signed 'Cadet' (younger brother), in French, to Joseph HOLLMAN, (1852-1927, Dutch Cellist) saying that "It's agreed ... I'll arrive in London on Wednesday at 6 pm, at Charing Cross and in the evening I'll go to see Madame Sans-Gêne at the Lyceum ...", 1 side 8vo., on paper headed with a small vignette of him in white tie and tails, Paris, Monday, no year

Coquelin cadet graduated from the Conservatoire with the first prize in comedy in 1867 and made his début at the Odéon. The next year he appeared with his brother, Coquelin ainé, at the Comédie Française and became a sociétaire in 1879. He also had much success reciting monologues of his own composition. See his 'Le Monologue Moderne' (1881) and 'Le Rire' (1887).
Madame Sans-Gêne is a historical comedy-drama by Victorien Sardou and Émile Moreau, concerning incidents in the life of Cathérine Hübscher, an outspoken 18th-century laundress who became the Duchess of Danzig. The play is described by its authors as "three acts with a prologue".
