RUSKIN (John, 1819-1900, Writer and Critic)

Fine Autograph Letter Signed to an unknown correspondent acknowledging his letter and saying that "the refusal you advise me of was absolutely just and necessary, if you give those drawings to the University of Cambridge, not to its visitors, and for their proper use by the students, it is necessary that only members of the University should have powers to show them. They are exactly in the same functions as the books in the College Libraries ...", 1 side 8vo., Brantwood, Coniston headed paper, 11th July

From 1873, Ruskin had full control over all his publications, having established George Allen as his sole publisher. George Allen was originally one of Ruskin's Working Men's College pupils. He went into publishing and his business was eventually merged to become Allen & Unwin.
