Montgomery, Field Marshal", on the front for a luncheon "on the Occasion of the Presentation of the Freedom of the Borough to Field-Marshal Sir Bernard Law Montgomery ..." by the Country Borough of Newport, the menu is printed on the inside, for a somewhat modest meal of Hors d'Oeuvres followed by Roast Chicken and vegetables, together with the souvenir Programme, each item 4 pages, King's Head Hotel, Newport, 25th September

On September 2nd 1945, World War II ended when U.S. General Douglas MacArthur accepted Japan's formal surrender aboard the U.S. battleship Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay along with a flotilla of more than 250 Allied warships. This lunch was only three weeks later.
