PRINCE ALBERT COMMISERATES ON THE DEATH OF THE ARCHBISHOP'S DAUGHTER ALBERT (Prince, 1819-1861, Consort of Queen Victoria)

Fine Autograph letter signed to "My dear Archbishop" John Bird SUMNER (1780-1862, Archbishop of Canterbury) saying that "It will be, I think, almost unnecessary to assure you how sincerely the Queen & myself sympathise with you in the heavy affliction that has fallen upon you. - Your Grace is sure to seek for consolation where alone it can be found, & we pray that God may assist you to bear your grief so that your health may not suffer ...", 2 sies 8vo., on mourning paper, with original autograph envelope signed, Buckingham Palace, 5th February

Albert died later that year at 10:50 p.m. on 14th December 1861 in the Blue Room at Windsor Castle, in the presence of the Queen and five of their nine children. The Archbishop died the following year on 6th September 1862 at Addington Palace, aged 82. He was predeceased by five of his nine children and his wife Marianne.
