OWEN
(Sir Richard, 1804-1892, anatomist and zoologist, creator of the Natural History Museum at South Kensington and inventor of the name 'Dinosaur')
Fine Autograph Letter Signed to "Dear Mr Blunt"
saying that he is "very glad to find that my engagement to Fowler will not preclude, as my wife thought, my availing myself of your very kind one for the 19th so please to expect ...", 1 side 8vo., Sheen Lodge headed paper, Richmond Park, Saturday night, no date, circa
bottom left hand corner unevenly torn without loss
Owen was a biologist, comparative anatomist and paleontologist. Despite being a controversial figure, Owen is generally considered to have been an outstanding naturalist with a remarkable gift for interpreting fossils.
He always tended to support orthodox men of science and the status quo. The royal family presented him with the cottage in Richmond Park in 1852 and Robert Peel put him on the Civil List.
