[HENRY (Albert William, 1862-1929, Prince of Prussia, Grand Admiral of the Imperial Navy, son of King Friedrich III and brother of King Wilmelm II of Prussia) and his wife IRENE (Princess of Hesse, 1866-1953 Queen Victoria's granddaughter) and their sons Prince WALDEMAR (1889-1945) and Prince SIGISMUND (1896-1978)

Unsigned Memorial postcard photo showing the family together, the couple are seated together on a sofa and he has his arm around his wife, the sons are sitting on the arm of the sofa and in a chair, the men are in uniform, 5½" x 3½", no place, no date, postmarked

An unusual photograph of the couple in mourning for their haemophilic son Prince Henry (1900-1904) who had just died. Like her sister Empress Alexandra, Irene carried the gene into the German Imperial family but Prince Henry and her were so popular with the European Royals that they were invited everywhere. The Prince's misrepresentation of what George V said before the first World War caused the Kaiser to believe that Britain would not go to war against Germany.
