LASCELLES (Sir Frank Cavendish, 1841-1920, Diplomat, Ambassador to Russia and Germany)

Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent, asking if he "could make it convenient to call at the Embassy tomorrow ... I should be glad to make your acquaintance and to receive Mr Harry Lawson's letter ...", 1 side 8vo, British Embassy, Berlin headed paper, 14th October

With a pencil note in another hand that he was "many years British Ambassador at Berlin & special pal of the Kaiser".
His tenure in Berlin saw the growing estrangement between Germany and the UK, and Lascelles notably had to deal with the effects of the Kruger telegram only days after his arrival. His relationship with Emperor Wilhelm II was always cordial but he was known to resent the policies of Chancellor Bernhard von Bülow. He resigned as ambassador in 1908 but continued to exercise influence over Anglo-German relations up until the First World War.
