In 1936 King Edward VIII sought Beaverbrook's advice on the public handling of his decision to marry Mrs Simpson. Beaverbrook and Churchill tried to delay the issue, advising the King to wait. After Beaverbrook's death his version of the struggle behind the scenes, The Abdication of King Edward VIII, was published in 1966.
