Certificate of Deduction of Income Tax Signed concerning the Annuity that Lady Mountbatten paid to Prince PHILIP ((Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021, Consort of ELIZABETH II), the annuity is £100 per annum and the tax that has been paid at a rate of 50%, the form certifies that “on paying to H.R.H. Prince Philip of Greece of H.M.S. Walace of G.P.O. London...” that the sum mentioned overleaf has been paid, 8½” x 3”, 15 Chester Street, Belgrave Square, 17th January

Prince Philip joined HMS Wallace as a Sub Lt on 28th January 1942, received his second stripe as lieutenant in July and was was appointed First Lt in October 1942. He served in Wallace until 3rd January 1944. Wallace escorted over two hundred convoys most of which were up and down 'E-boat Alley' off the East Coast from Rosyth to Sheerness and visa-versa.
Provenance: From the family of H.M. Inspector of Taxes at the time who was allowed to keep these documents on his retirement.
