[EDWARD VII (1841-1910, King of Great Britain)]

Interesting Handwritte card signed P.L.D. giving admission to the roof of 21 Cambridge Terrace Hyde Park, to view the “Funeral Procession of his Late Majesty King Edward VII” in the 1st Row, with a note that “the Proprietor to not hold Responsible in any accidents etc”, 1 side mourning card 4½” x 3½”, 21 Cambridge Terrace, 20th May

Lance Corporal Paul Adrian Devaux (1889-1916) was an English Soldier who died in the First World War. At the time of the 1911 census he was working as a clerk at a hardware merchants and living with his family at this address so doubtless this was signed by a Devaux.
The funeral was held two weeks after the King's death on 20th May. Huge crowds, estimated at between three and five million, gathered to watch the procession, the route of which was lined by 35,000 soldiers. The whole procession proceeded from Westminster Hall, via Whitehall and the Mall, from Hyde Park Corner up to the Marble Arch, and thence to Paddington Station.
