WARRANT DOCUMENT SIGNED IN THE FIRST MONTH OF HER REIGN ALLOWING THE CONTINUED USE OF THE ROYAL SEAL UNTIL A NEW ONE WAS PRODUCED ELIZABETH II (1926-2022, Longest Serving Monarch of Great Britain)

Fine Early Printed Document signed at the head, addressed to the “Governor or Officer Administering the Government of Our Colony of Aden” authorising “the continued use of the Public Seal” that has previously been used in “Our Colony of Aden for sealing all things whatsoever that are used to be sealed therewith until another Seal shall be prepared and transmitted to you duly authorized by Us...”, 2 sides folio with stamped seal, Court at St James’s, 3rd March

As George VI's health declined during 1951, Elizabeth frequently stood in for him at public events. When she visited Canada and Harry S. Truman in Washington, DC, in October 1951, her private secretary Martin Charteris carried a draft accession declaration in case the King died while she was on tour. In early 1952, Elizabeth and Philip set out for a tour of Australia and New Zealand by way of the British colony of Kenya. On 6th February, they had just returned to their Kenyan home, Sagana Lodge, after a night spent at Treetops Hotel, when word arrived of the death of Elizabeth's father. Philip broke the news to the new queen. She chose to retain Elizabeth as her regnal name, and was therefore called Elizabeth II. She was proclaimed queen throughout her realms, and the royal party hastily returned to the United Kingdom. Elizabeth and Philip then moved into Buckingham Palace. This document must be one of the first she signed in her long reign.
