FORSTER (Edward Morgan, 1879-1970, Novelist & Essayist, Author of ‘A Passage to India’)

Fine Autograph Letter Signed (‘E.M. Forster’) to ‘Dear Mr Luke’ thanking him for his letter and apologising that his had taken “ten days to reach you. I gather that Mrs Hart has changed her mind on the suitability of Keith Baxter for the television. I have not changed mine and I cannot pretend that, on this particular point, your letter meets with my approval...”, 1 side 8vo., King’s College Cambridge headed paper, 20th July

Keith BAXTER (1933-2023) was a Welsh Theatre, Film and Television Actor.
It was Forster’s article on the Suffolk poet George Crabbe which led the homesick Benjamin Britten to return home to England from the US in 1942, and to write Peter Grimes. He was a frequent visitor to The Red House. After Forster’s death in 1970 it is believed that Britten and Pears chose this painting from his rooms in Cambridge as a memento.
