THE YOUNG PRINCES ON THEIR SOUTH AFRICA TOUR ALBERT VICTOR (Christian Edward, Duke of Clarence, 1864-1892, Eldest Son of Edward VII) & GEORGE V (1865-1936, King of Great Britain)

Delightful cabinet photo by Russell & Sons, signed by both, “Edward” with the place and date in his hand and “George”, showing them both full length in Naval uniform, the older Prince is seated with his young brother standing behind him, 6½” x 4”, Cape Town, 23rd February

A delightful example of these two young Princes together. Signed photos from the short life of the Duke of Clarence are rare.
In 1877 Albert Victor was sent to join the training ship Britannia at Dartmouth. In 1879 he went with his younger brother Prince George on a three years’ cruise in H.M.S. Bacchante, which sailed round the world and visited most of the British colonies. This photo was signed when they were on the South African leg of the tour.
