GEORGE V (1865-1936, King of Great Britain)

Handwritten Document Signed as Lieutenant and Commander of HMS Thrush headed “’Thrush’. Delay in departure from Montreal” addressed to Vice Admiral George W. Watson, Commander in Chief explaining that “with reference to your signal of tonight, I regret to have to report that the delay in the ‘Thrush’ leaving Montreal this morning was due to the neglect of the quarter master of the Middle watch in failing to call the Chief Engineer and Engine Room Staff at the time stated in his order book. The man is at present in my report, and I shall investigate his case on Monday. I regret extremely that this circumstance should have occurred...”, 2 sides folio, HMS Thrush, Quebec, 13th September

Jules-Ernest LIVERNOIS (1851-1933) was a Canadian Photographer and Businessman. For almost 100 years three generations of the Livernois family dominated the art, practice, and business of photography in Quebec City. From 1854 to 1865 the firm was led by the founder, Jules-Isaïe Benoît, dit Livernois, and from 1866 to 1873 by his widow Élise L'Herault, dit L'Heureux, and her son-in-law Louis Bienvenu. Jules-Ernest Livernois, the son of Jules-Isaïe and Élise, later took over the enterprise. In 1898 his son Jules assumed Jules-Ernest's responsibilities for photography and, in all likelihood, the management of the business after the death of the latter.
The Prince at the time was commander of HMS Thrush which had been launched on 22nd June 1889. Her first station was the North America and West Indies Station based at the Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Thrush arrived at Bermuda with Prince George in command on 18th July 1890, with a torpedo boat in tow, and later proceeded to Halifax.
