WOLFF
(Johannes, 1861-1931, Dutch Violinist, Virtuoso and Composer)
Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs Longfield
regretting “very much not to have been able to play the Nocturne, but I only arrived at Eastbourne at 7.30 & recei ved your letter during the event...”, 1 side 8vo., 6 Cork Street, no date
At the age of 12, Wolff won the King of the Netherlands’ travelling scholarship and was decorated by many of the crowned heads of Europe before settling in France (Légion d’Honneur). He published for Violin and Piano a ‘Romance in D’ (1891) and ‘Souvenir sans Paroles’(1902). Leo Schuster, the friend of Elgar, was well known for his society gatherings at his house in Old Queen Street, Parliament Square, and Wolff was much in demand on such occasions in London.
