Warren was recorder of Hull, 1852-1874, and M.P. for Midhurst, 1856-1859. Among his novels are ‘Ten Thousand a Year’, 1839. Perry had been Lord Chancellor Lyndhurst’s principal secretary, 1841-1846. The 14th Lord Derby, later Prime Minister, was a literary as well as a political figure.
