DRUMLANRIG CASTLE MENU CARD FOR QUEEN VICTORIA [VICTORIA (1819-1901, Queen of Great Britain)]

Most unusual Finely decorated menu card with a coloured Vignette of the Castle at the head, and a message written underneath “Drumlanrig. With best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you & John, with love from us both, from Mollie. Menu Card for visit of Queen Victoria”, the card has a decorative goldand blue border and two crowned monograms at the head and a central red heart with wings and a crown, 8” x 5”, Drumlanrig, no date together with a blank sheet of headed paper for the castle

The 'Pink Palace' of Drumlanrig, constructed between 1679 and 1689 from distinctive pink sandstone, is an example of late 17th-century Renaissance architecture. The first Duke of Queensberry, William Douglas, had the castle built on the site of an ancient Douglas stronghold overlooking the Nith Valley. The castle is home to part of the Buccleuch art collection. Apparently the lime avenue was built to welcome Queen Victoria on a visit but in the end she didn’t come.
