BEXLEY (Nicholas Vansittart, 1766-1831, Chancellor of the Exchequer, from 1823 1st Baron)

Autograph Letter in the third person to Thomas B. Mason, of Clement's Inn, about taxing "the Profession of Architecture", he has "very little doubt" it would be unproductive and highly objectionable, 1 side 4to. black-edged, with separate address sheet signed with black armorial seal, Downing Street, 16th August

As Chancellor, Vansittart had an amazing head for financial measures, which he carried through Parliament whether they were fully understood or not, and obtaining support from his opponents to do so.
