Part AL, no signature, [to Mrs Ann Dawkins, 1805 or 1806-1886, eldest daughter of General Sir Howard Douglas (1776-1861, 3rd Bt. of Carr, former Groom of the Bedchamber to the Duke of Gloucester)], saying "I am much obliged to you for the note I received last night and I hope that when the Meeting with your Sister is over ... that your dear Parents ... will by degrees get over the sad shock they have just sustained but ... this Note is to beg your Father not to think of coming to see me ... untill after the last sad Duties have been performed & his Nerves stronger but I shall be glad to see you in your Brothers absence", crowned embossed 'Mary', 4 sides 8vo., Gloucester House, Piccadilly, 8th March no year but

Mary, Mrs James Murray-Gartshore, the Douglas' youngest daughter, had just died. Both she and Ann were the Duchesses' goddaughters, and both had married in 1836 on Corfu when their father was governor there.
