Evguenia's father Maximilian was the second son of Eugène de Beauharnais, Napoleon's adopted son, Viceroy of Italy, and 1st Duke. In 1868 she married Alexander Friedrich, 2nd son of Duke Peter of Oldenburg. In 1856 her mother married Count Grigori Alexandrovich Stroganoff (1823-1878) but retained her style as Duchess of Leuchtenberg.
