LORIMER (George Claude, 1838-1904, D.D., Scottish-born Baptist Minister at Tremont Temple, Boston)

Autograph Letter Signed to Sampson Low, Marston & Co., saying that, with regard to Miss Bell's books, "Mr Brooks of the 'Pall Mall' has promised to ... see that justice is done ... Mr Goudy ... as 'United Press' agent has some influence with the 'Chronicle' and may himself prepare a review", Lorimer suggests they send the volumes to Goudy "with your compliments", 2 sides 8vo., London, 3rd August

Lilian Lida Bell, 1863-1929, born in Chicago, brought out her first novel, 'Love Affairs of an Old Maid', in 1893, and in her second, 'A Little Sister in the Wilderness', 1895, dedicated to Lorimer, "my gentlest critic and most indulgent friend", the American press notices of the first are unboundedly enthusiastic, "lively - witty - natural and easy". They were published in London by Sampson Low and are full of vivacious charm.
