SOUTHAMPTON (Charles Fitzroy, M.P., 1737-1797, from 1780 1st Baron, General & Politician)

Autograph Letter Signed to 'Dear Sir', saying that "Miss Skinner being a Minor would prevent your wishes being comply'd with; my own Settlements shackle me, as much; & all that I can do to satisfy the wish of an old Friend and school fellow" is to assure him "of my leaving him quiet & undisturbed possession of his Land & my constant endeavour to influence those concerned to follow the same object", 2 sides 4to., no place, 29th November

Fitzroy, a grandson of the 2nd Duke of Grafton, was Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick's ADC at Minden. From 1759 he had a seat in Parliament, although he continued to serve under Prince Ferdinand and in 1761 brought home the news of the victory at Kirchdenkern. In November 1784 he was one of those friends sent by the Prince of Wales to tell Mrs Fitzherbert that, unless she came to Carlton House, the Prince's life was in danger.
