AUGUSTUS FREDERICK (Duke of Sussex, 1773-1843, 6th Son of George III, President of the Society of Arts, Bibliophile)

Frank signed 'Sussex' to George Grenville Glover, 82nd Regiment, Sheerness, from Holkham, (Wednesday) 17th December

On the back is a fragment of a letter, apparently from the recipient's mother, saying that "Papa starts for Holkham tomorrow", and mentioning Christmas presents and "the Duke", who often stayed at Holkham. Archdeacon Glover was his Chaplain. See Stirling, 'Coke of Norfolk and his friends', 1912 for many good stories of the Duke.
