THE REVIVED PRIVY COUNCIL POWLE (Henry, 1630-1692, Master of the Rolls, Speaker of the Convention Parliament that prepared for William III's accession)

Signature on the Itemized Account for the [Privy] "Council Chamber", including salary to Benjamin Coling and Nathaniel Cox, keepers, "for supplying Fire and Candle there", with payments to messengers, a servant and cleaning woman, "Office-rent for two Rooms in Scotland Yard ... Stationary ware as Paper, Pens, Ink, Sand Wax, Tape, binding of books", an extra clerk, there is no charge for "Postage of Letters, Fire and Candle", being the lower half of a ledger page, ruled in red, and signed on the verso, 2 sides 9" x 5¼", no place, no date, c. one or two marginal tears

Signed also "Bridgewater", (2nd Earl, 1622-1686), "H[enry] Coventry", (1619-1686, Secretary of State, 1672-1679), and Sir John Ernle (Chancellor of the Exchequer 1676-1689). The Privy Council was revived in 1679 after the fall of Danby, under the sponsorship of Sir William Temple, who had twice before refused the secretaryship of state. It quickly resolved itself into an "inner committee".
