Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Leece, apologizing for not having before written "to my Lord Treasurer", (since 30th May 1711 Robert Harley, Earl of Oxford), "about making an End of my Father's last Acct. but desire yo. to send me such a Coppy of a Lettr. to Mr Lounds", [William Lowndes, Senior Secretary at the Treasury 11th June 1711 - 20th January 1724, or possibly the William Lowndes, Under Clerk 25th December 1703 - 25th December 1717], "my not being us'd to those great People may be some what at a Lost how to addresse myself to 'em", 1 side 4to., Uffington, Stamford, Lincolnshire, 24th July portion of blank left margin torn away, possibly on opening

Mr Leece was earlier negotiating with the Treasury on behalf of the writer's father, the Hon. Charles Bertie, (b. c. 1635, died 22nd March 1711). The father was a younger brother of the Earl of Lindsey, and had been envoy to Denmark, 1671, and Secretary of the Treasury, 1673.
