EDWARD VII (1841-1910, King of Great Britain)

Autograph German telegram form, in English, signed with initials 'A.E.', addressed to Lord Marcus Beresford in Englefield Green near Windsor, asking if "Vasistas has any chance on Wednesday", adding that "Hirsch is here", no place, no date, c. printed edge a little frayed without loss

Lord Marcus (brother of Lord Charles, Darling Daisy's lover), managed the stud at Sandringham and was racing manager for both the Prince of Wales and his friend Baron Moriz von Hirsch (d. 1896). Hirsch was known as 'Railway Hirsch', having financed the railway from Sofia to Constantinople. After Vasistas (French for 'Was ist das?') won the Grand Prix, Hirsch bought him for 6,000 guineas and he went on to win the Chester cup.
